Growing Communities looking for a coordinator for its new Patchwork Farm project AND four apprentice growers

Growing Communities are excited to have secured a grant from the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food Scheme to grow their Patchwork Farm in Hackney. They now need a coordinator to help  double the apprenticeships they offer, find suitable land and offer supported business start-up opportunities. Growing Communities are also recruiting this year’s round of apprentice growers so if you want to get your hands dirty, now’s the time to apply.

Growing Communities is a social enterprise based in Hackney, East London. They are working to create a more sustainable food system through our projects which provide real alternatives to the current damaging food system.

Patchwork Farm Coordinator: Salary £23 045 pro rata (plus discount on veg/fruit bag), 2 days a week (15 hours). The role is a fixed-term contract for three years. Deadline for applications: 24 February 2011.

Apprentice Growers (4 unpaid positions): To assist the Grower in the production of organic vegetables, herbs and fruit at our urban market gardens in Hackney. The posts start in April and run for 28 weeks. Two posts are 1½ days per week (Mon or Thurs 9.00am – 4.00pm and Tues 2.00pm – 7.00pm) and the other two are Tuesdays only (9.00am – 7.00pm).  Apprentice growers will be given the opportunity to take on their own organic sites at the end of the growing season.
