Job Title: Local Strategic Partnership Project Worker

The Community Composting Network has an opportunity for a secondment or short term contract for a dynamic and focussed and organised Project Worker with training skills on our Local Partnerships Project. The project aims to enable and support 16 community groups, individuals or organisations to set up Community Composting projects. Working in partnership with Local Authorities the project aims to describe in terms relevant to Local Authorities the value of the groups activities.

The project is running from November to March and the worker can be either based in Sheffield at the CCN offices or can work from home and will need to travel to deliver training etc on location in the area involved. The project worker will be supported in the delivery of the project by CCN staff, but is expected to use their initiative and be self motivated.

We are working to a very tight deadline and are aiming to confirm the successful applicant by Friday 5th November.

Purpose of the Project

  • Is to capture the value of Community Composting in terms relevant for the four Local Authorities taking part in the project across all their relevant departments.
  • To raise awareness of and deliver a series of practical workshops to provide local groups, individuals and in some cases Local Authority officers with the knowledge and capabilities to set-up Community Composting projects.
  • Provide ongoing support for the new groups/projects especially during the first months of their operation and to facilitate the formation of local networks of Community Composters (CC’s) to cooperate and learn from each other.
  • Identify best practice case studies for eventual dissemination. During this phase, we will also set-up the framework for measuring multiple outputs/outcomes and carry out the initial monitoring of the results.
  • The intention is to develop a service that can be offered to Local Authorities in the future at cost. 

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

1.  Identify the specific needs of the Local Authorities involved to develop and agree multiple outputs/outcomes across various LA departments including Planning.

2.  Develop training workshops and materials for the new CC groups/projects and LA officers including planners.

3.  Organise a ‘forum’ event for each LA for potential CC groups and other interested parties.

4.  Deliver the workshops for the new Community Composting groups/projects. Three workshop sessions are planned for each LA area.

5.  Deliver training to LA officers who wish to work directly with the local CC groups.

6.  Provide on-going support to the new groups/projects during their establishment.

7.  Work with existing and new groups/projects for peer to peer networking support and sharing of information, best practice, and equipment.

8.  Identify and prepare case studies.

9.  Define the output measurement parameters and help set-up the procedures for collecting the monitoring data.

Person specification

  • We are looking for a person with a passion for Community Composting and its associated activities.
  • Who can communicate clearly and sensitively with people from all backgrounds.
  • Experience of training or teaching is essential.
  • If you also have an understanding of Local Authority ways of working that would be ideal.
  • You will have a proactive, encouraging and positive approach but know when to stand back and let community groups and individuals stand on their own feet and define their own purpose.
  • You must have excellent general IT skills and a good telephone manner.
  • Project management skills are essential.
  • It’s essential you a good team worker, are well motivated and able to manage your own work load and time effectively.

Pay and conditions

Secondment agreements to be discussed.

Salary for short term contract of 50 days between now and March 18th 2011, at £25,320 per annum pro-rata

A laptop, mobile phone and travel and subsistence expenses will be provided.

The project is funded by the Third Sector Capacity Building Programme and funds are released in phases as criteria are met.
