CCN Job: Research and Administrative Worker

CCN is looking to recruit a Research and Administrative Worker. You will report directly to the Coordinator and assist her in the day to day running, and tasks associated with specific current work and the future development of CCN. This includes these current main themes:

  • legislation regulating composting and the use of compost
  • sustainable production of food and food security
  • working with local authorities to support more community composting
  • developing commercial activities that both support members and are income-generating

Job Description

You’ll have a flexible and task orientated approach to your work, and be able to understand its impact on the bigger picture of CCN’s future and members needs. Some of the specific general tasks will be:

  • Researching and reporting issues of concern to members and CCN
  • Project administration
  • Planning and organising seminars and events
  • Processing membership applications and orders
  • Maintaining the membership database and  day to day financial accounts
  • Assisting with enquiries and requests for information from new and existing members
  • Responding to government policy consultations and assisting with lobbying of policy makers
  • Assisting with the planning and development of information resources both in hard copy and online
  • Planning, producing content for and editing the network’s journal – the Growing Heap
  • Producing the fortnightly e-newsletter for members (basic HTML required)
  • Help plan and support Board of Trustees meetings including minute taking
  • Attending meetings and conferences on behalf of CCN
  • Assisting with marketing and communications

The CCN office is based on Heeley City Farm, in Sheffield where the day to day work is carried out, but there will be opportunities for travel across the whole of the UK which may include overnight stays.

Person specification

  • We are looking to employ a graduate with excellent numeric and literacy skills.
  • Who can communicate clearly, sensitively and purposefully with people from all backgrounds.
  • A knowledge or background in any of the main themes listed would be desirable
  • You’ll have a helpful friendly and positive approach when serving members needs
  • Excellent general IT skills are required including basic knowledge of HTML; knowledge of Joomla content management and forum administration would be an advantage but are not essential.
  • An ability/willingness to learn new software (e.g. Joomla, Quickbooks)
  • It is essential that you are willing to learn and seek learning both on the job and via more formal training.
  • It’s essential you a good team worker, are well motivated and able to manage your own work load and time effectively.
  • You must be comfortable in a small-charity setting where you may be called upon to perform duties outside of your job description
