Saturday 5th March 2011 9.00-17.30 Discovery Centre, Green Estate, Sheffield Bookings are now being taken for the CCN Annual Conference 2011. We are at a new venue this year - the Discovery Centre, Green Estate, Sheffield. The conference will be on the Saturday, with an optional chance to come on Friday night to socialise and have a meal in Sheffield. We have some low cost hostel accommodation arranged - places are limited so book early.
As always, the most important part will be networking and being inspired by talking to people doing the sort of project you are planning. Most of the sessions will be interactive, designed to get your feedback and input to topics.
We've tried to keep costs as low as possible, so the fee for this years conference will be £30 inc. a vegetarian lunch and refreshments

Current and future activities A short session to bring you up-to-date, with time for your questions and discussion on ideas for the future.
Its NOT Waste ! Community Compost Accreditation Fionnuala King (Project Coordinator) will give the latest update on the planned CCN compost accreditation scheme, followed by a discussion to get your feedback. The whole idea is to produce a way of proving your compost is a high quality product with added social and environmental value that will no longer need to be called waste by the regulators, without involving the cost and bureaucracy of PAS 100.
Improvements in legislation By the time of the conference, Cath Kibbler (Coordinator) hopes to be able to report some good news re ABPR which will simplify food waste composting for community composters. Plus a brief update of other legislation. Working with Local Authorities
CCN has funding for a pilot project with four Local Authorities to establish new community composting groups as well as supporting existing groups. Jane Wilde (ex ELCRP), who is working for CCN on this project will give an update and explain how LAs supporting community composting groups helps the LAs meet their performance targets.
Compost Genius spot This is a chance for you to talk briefly about your latest project, idea, or novel equipment (real or imaginary). A 10 minute or less slot - so keep it fast and furious with pictures if possible. We don’t want formal powerpoint presentations! Followed by probing questions from the audience. There will be a (small) prize and trophy for the idea voted the best by the audience.
The mAD project The Micro Anaerobic Digester has been bubbling away at Cyrenians in Newcastle for since September. Richard Northridge (Coordinator of mAD Steering Group, Cwm Harry Land Trust) will describe its unique features and how AD could become part of community composting.
Green Infrastructure - New uses for compost Green Estate and CCN are working together on an exciting project (funded by WRAP) to develop the wider use of compost, such as green roofs and living walls. To include feedback from the Green Infrastructure course held for CCN members.
The Venue
Green Estate is a mile from Sheffield centre in the remaining part of the Great Sheffield Deer Park. It was set up to regenerate derelict land in Sheffield into green spaces. Its now almost self-funding through a variety of commercial and social activities, including green space making and management, composting, landscape design, green roofs, training and food growing.
The conference is in the Discovery Centre, a new visitor/ community centre. It's a short bus ride from Sheffield station. Full details of how to get there by bus, tram, or car will be sent when you book.
Friday Night Arrangements
If you can make Friday night, we will be meeting to socialise and have a meal in a vegetarian café in the centre of Sheffield.
